This was done en plein air on a dreary overcast day at Alviso Slough. I made the colors brighter and happier.

How can a building be in the landscape and not be painted?
This was done en plein air. I moved the flag from the left to the right of the building to help lead your eye up to the focal area.

This was done in a workshop in the grisaille technique.. This image evokes memories of monsoon summers spent in India.

This is the Ferry Building in San Francisco, a regular favorite for outdoor lunch at the Saturday Farmer's Market.

I took the reference photo of the interior of the Orpheum Theater in San Francisco from my seat while waiting for the musical production of Hamilton to begin. In June 2020, I participated in Direct Watercolor, a daily challenge of creating art without using a pencil to sketch first. As I got more and more comfortable during the month, I found that I was seeing differently and was more confidently painting directly with a paintbrush without the crutch of pencil lines giving a free and loose feel to my work.

A day later, I attempted the Orpheum again in a different color palette. This might be a matinee show, while the previous looks like an evening performance. How color affects mood and time of day!
